So... 2008?

What does 2008 look like for the Gamecock Football team? Who knows! We have talent. We have question marks. We have no special teams and defensive coachs (thank god). So, it leaves everything up in the air. Let's look at the schedule shall we?

08/28/08 vs. North Carolina State
Kudos to the coaching staff for avoiding the whole starting the season with a patsy thing. While NC State is not a barn burner, they are also not a 1AA team. This should be a win for us.

09/04/08 at Vanderbilt
Yes we lost to Vandy last year, but it was a fluke. I do not expect a loss this year. Vandy will remember they are Vandy and our talent should be more than enough to carry us in this game.

09/13/08 vs. Georgia
Who wants to play this game? Anybody? Bueller? Georgia is going to be nucking futs next year and I do not look forward to this game. Our only saving grace is that we are playing at Billy Brice. So, maybe it will be close. Probably not. I am predicting a loss.

09/20/08 vs. Wofford
Win.

09/27/08 vs. UAB
Not a bad team but not on the talent par with South Carolina. Should be a win.

10/04/08 at Mississippi
Win

10/11/08 at Kentucky
Yay! Kentucky is going to be Kentucky again. With out their Heisman hopeful, this should be a win.

10/18/08 vs. LSU
The defending national champs are going to rough and tumble next year again. I say loss.

11/01/08 vs. Tennessee
Spurrier is going to pull an upset here. I say win.

11/08/08 vs. Arkansas
Should be a win. The program is in shambles and McFadden carried the team last year.

11/15/08 at Florida
Florida is also going to be nucking futs. I am thinking the SEC championship will be decided between either Florida and LSU or Georgia and LSU. I saw loss.

11/29/08 at Clemson
Hard to predict. Clemson is so up and down that you never know what to expect. I am going to be bold and say win but it could go either way.

So, I predict a 9 win season in 2008 and that should be acceptable.

How is that for too early predictions? The college football season is still smoldering.

One thing I will say, this season will rest in the hands of an unknown player: Garcia. Yes ,I know you know who he is. I mean we have no idea if he can play the college game. We know what Smelley can do and he is not up to par. If we are to have a chance of doing better than what I listed above, Garcia is going to have to be a phenom.

Done.

Nice analysis. A few thoughts:

1) I don't think Vandy or Ole Miss wins are guaranteed. Vandy wasn't a fluke loss this year. While it's true we had a bad day, it's also true that Vandy took UGA and UT down to the wire, and should've def. beaten UGA. Vandy may still for the most part have lesser atheletes than other SEC schools, but Bobby Johnson gets more out of less than anyone else, and as long as he continues to coach as well as he has, Vandy will always be an upset waiting to happen. Ole Miss, on the other hand, has decent (but not great) talent, but has been awful due to poor coaching under Orgeron. I don't think Nutt is the best coach around by any means, but Ole Miss will be better next year under him. Don't get me wrong; I think we win these games, but they're not going to be easy.
2) I do agree that we beat UT this year, although our ability to crap this game away never ceases to amaze me; it was probably the most heartrending loss for me last year. But UT, a questionable overachiever this year, will lose a lot, including a senior QB and OC David Cutcliffe, who is more or less the brains behind Phil's cellulite. I expect UT to be bad this year and for Phil to lose his job or step down a la Lloyd Carr.
3) Out of the big games against UGA, LSU, and UF, I think we have the best chance against LSU. This will be a trap game for LSU, coming after Auburn and Florida and before Georgia. They will be banged up and looking ahead to Georgia, giving us a great chance to score an epic upset at home. At any rate, I think we will win one of these three games, although I also think we'll prob. lose a game against a lesser opponent like Ole Miss.
4) Clemson is impossible to call. They have much more talent than us, but who knows if good Clemson will show up.

You've got a nice blog here. This is my first post, but I have lurked for some time.

Agree, it's a fun blog to read. I'm thinking USC will probably be in the 5-6 loss range based on the schedule and the fact that new quarterbacks will be broken in next year, not to mention a new DC (although anything should be an improvement over Nix.)

Vandy will be competitive. Ole Miss, maybe or maybe not.

Prediction:

Georgia: L
LSU: Probably L (LSU has depth like no other team.)
Ole Miss: W
Kentucky: W
North Carolina: 50/50 but probably W
Vandy: 50/50 but probably L
Tennessee: A win would be an upset, I'll go with L, but if anyone can win it, it's Spurrier.
Arkansas: W
Florida: L
Clemson: L
