USC backup receiver O.J. Murdock has been suspended indefinitely following a shoplifting arrest this past weekend in his hometown of Tampa. Gamecocks coach Steve Spurrier said Murdock would not "be suiting up this week." Murdock was arrested Sunday evening at the University Square Mall and charged with third-degree grand theft for taking property valued between $300 and $5,000. A spokesperson with the Hillsborough County sheriff’s office said the charge is a felony. Murdock, 19, was released early Monday morning on a $2,000 surety bond.
Sigh. Playing football is an honor and as such a player (getting a free ride not less) should act honorable. Whether he is on the field or off. We do not have all the details... but if OJ Murdock is indeed convicted, he should never be allowed to wear a Gamecock Jersey again. On... or off the field. They should literally take away any jerseys he has in his dorm. Now, if the evidence comes and he is cleared (not by some miracle the charges are dropped) I will be the first to apologize. I want a national championship team on the field at William's Brice... but not if we have to go the Miami route to get it.
